The Story of Rich Boyd, Page 1
Rich Boyd is an artist, designer, photographer, and writer who, like many he writes about, enjoys an immense interest in anything automotive. As a adolescent Rich submitted entries five years in a row to the Fisher Body Craftsmans Guild contest. Rich won a number of cash awards. The prize money allowed him to purchase his first car, a 46 Ford sedan, and insurance for a year launching him on his life-long love affair with automobiles.
After high school, Rich attended the University of Arizona where he was a commercial art major (and ROTC cadet). Upon graduation, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and a commission in the Army. Two weeks later he was ordered to report to active duty. After serving in Vietnam as a line platoon leader, he remembers, I was eager to get back to cars when I returned to the World (home).
About a year later he visited a college buddy who was enrolled at Art Center College of Design. Coincidentally, Rich had introduced him to the Fisher Body contest in high school and this friend was now taking Transportation Design classes. After seeing what he was learning at Art Center in the summer of 72, Rich decided, I, too, must try to become a professional auto designer!
